A new partnership between Nottingham’s tram network and a popular charity has got off to a flying start with NET staff, customers and the system operator raising more than £1,200 by ‘Going Green’.
Dressed in tops to match the colours of MacMillan Cancer Support, NET employees staged bake sales at the Travel Centre in King Street and the Wilkinson Street depot.
Their efforts were boosted by the travelling public who made donations on board trams as NET operator, Keolis Nottingham, signed a 12-month partnership agreement with the charity.
The move followed a vote by staff who chose MacMillan as their charity of the year.
Chris Williams, Commercial Manager at Keolis Nottingham, explained:
“We’ve supported MacMillan’s national Go Green campaign for a number of years, but now it has helped us celebrate a new partnership between the tram and the charity.
“It’ll be the first of a series of fundraising activities over the next 12 months as we aim to raise at least £10,000 for a cause that means so much to so many people.”
The recent cake sales and collections raised a total of £382, with a number of other tram-related events and activities previously raising £480. Both sums have been matched by Keolis Nottingham, bringing the total raised to date to £1,245.50.
To mark the launch of the partnership, a new video has also been posted here, showing NET employees out an about on the network collecting for Macmillan, with Chris highlighting their plans for future fundraisers.
“We’ve still a long way to go, but our campaign has got off to a flying start thanks to the generosity of tram staffand NET customers,” he added.
Stacey Smalley, Fundraising Manager for Macmillan in Nottinghamshire, commented:
“It was a fantastic opportunity to spend the day with the NET staff and customers on the Go Green day, everyone was so enthusiastic and generous with donations.
“It’s partnerships like these that make a huge difference to work we do, helping to support people living with cancer find their best way through.
I am looking forward to the year ahead with NET and what we can achieve together.”
As part of the campaign, a Just Giving page has been set up where customers can make donations.
