Nottingham Express Transit (NET) will be carrying out essential overnight network maintenance work in November, affecting the QMC and Beeston Zones. The work will enable NET to make adjustments to the electricity wires within its overhead line equipment, strengthening the network and reducing the risk of technical failure.
There will be no trams running between the University of Nottingham and Cator Lane tram stops between 4.00pm on Sunday 17 November until the end of service on that day, with Central College, Chilwell Highroad, Beeston Centre, Middle Street and University Boulevard all closed as the maintenance work takes place. Tram users are advised to check affected routes before travelling, and to allow for additional time on journeys.
To minimise disruption, a replacement bus service will be in place from 4pm on Sunday 17 November. This will only collect passengers from the University of Nottingham and Cator Lane tram stops, and won’t be stopping at any others in between. Normal tram service will return to all stops from Monday 18 November at 6.00am, when the works are due to be completed.
A number of road closures and diversions will also be in place during the works, with the Beeston Interchange - including all bus stops within it - affected. Regular service will continue across the rest of the extensive NET tram network throughout the maintenance period.
Trevor Stocker, head of operations at NET, said: “This short, planned maintenance work is a response to an incident that happened last year, causing the contact wire to be damaged and disconnected from the overhead line on part of our network. Now that the wire has been re-installed, our engineers must complete the final part of the work which is taking place this November.
“As well as our ongoing maintenance work, this type of direct repair is crucial for ensuring the optimal safety and reliability for our tram users, and we thank the public for their patience.
“As well as temporarily closing down part of our tram network for one evening, some surrounding roads could be affected by closures, particularly around Beeston Interchange. We advise anyone planning to travel by tram or car, to plan ahead. Allow additional time for journeys and become familiar with our replacement bus service. Normal tram service is set to resume from 6.00am on Monday 18 November, ready for the working week to restart.”
