Essential tram track maintenance work will be taking place for five days next month starting on 12 April, Nottingham Express Transit (NET) has revealed.

The network improvements will take place between Middle Hill and Weekday Cross, and the Lace Market tram stop will be closed until the works finish on 16 April. No tram services will be operating between Old Market Square and Nottingham Station during this time.

To minimise disruption, NCT Green line buses will be accepting tram tickets or passes while the maintenance work takes place. However, due to traffic diversions, buses will also not be servicing the Lace Market stop. Customers are being encouraged to allow extra time and check affected routes before travelling.

Overnight preparation work will take place on the network from Monday 7 to Friday 11 April, followed by the main work continuing during the day and night from Saturday 12 to Wednesday 16 April. Normal tram service is set to resume on Thursday 17 April, when the Lace Market stop will reopen.

Trevor Stocker, Head of Operations at NET, said: “These upcoming works are part of routine maintenance work we regularly carry out to ensure our network can remain safe and reliable for our customers. Nottingham’s tram network has been running now for 21 years, and undergoing these improvements means that we’re able to ensure we’re running on the best technology, helping passengers get from A-B smoothly.

“We apologise for any inconvenience these upcoming works may cause and encourage customers with any queries to contact us via our online portal, or to speak to a member of our team who will be based at nearby tram stops while the work is taking place.”
