Nottingham Express Transit (NET) - Bus service to replace trams during routine track maintenance

Young pupils from Nottingham schools will become the city’s first ‘Trambassadors’, acting as an important community link for NET and providing learning opportunities for children.

The scheme is being piloted at Alderman Pounder Infant and Nursery School in Chilwell before being rolled out to more primary and secondary schools in the region over the coming year.

The first 2 Trambassadors, Alfie Daniels and Ariadne Van Krimpen, will sit on the school’s ‘Children’s Government’ and represent the pupils from Alderman Pounder Infant and Nursery School on the scheme.

Tim Hesketh, CEO of Tramlink said: “We want to engage with schools and local children so we can work even more closely with the communities we are proud to serve. We’re looking forward to hearing from our young Trambassadors about what we can do to improve as well as discussing the importance of safety around the tram network.”

The Trambassador scheme will include a mix of classroom-based and hands-on learning that fits in with the school curriculum and will also be looking at wider topics including STEM, sustainability, and green infrastructure.

Adam Butterworth-Drury, Headteacher at Alderman Pounder Infant School, part of the Flying High Partnership, said: “We’re excited to be given the opportunity to be the first school to work with NET given the close proximity of the network to the school. I’m sure the children will be delighted that they will have a chance to have a direct say in how NET could improve things for them and the local community as well as hearing more about the role of the tram in Nottingham.”

The Trambassadors scheme is one part of Tramlink’s new Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy that outlines how NET will make a difference in 4 key areas over the coming years:
