New Look Tram Unveiled As A ‘Green Symbol’ Of Nottingham’s ‘Carbon Neutral 2028’ Climate Ambitions

NET and Nottingham City Council today unveiled a striking new look for one of Nottingham’s trams to help create a ‘green symbol’ of the city’s ambitious ‘Carbon Neutral Nottingham 2028’ climate goals.

The newly wrapped tram features an eye-catching design based on Nottingham City Council’s #CarbonNeutral2028 campaign focussed on becoming the UK’s first carbon neutral city by 2028.

The tram was unveiled today at NET’s Wilkinson Street depot by two young pupils - Alfie Daniels and Ariadne Van Krimpen - from Alderman Pounder Infant and Nursery School who have been selected as the city’s first ‘Trambassadors’, acting as an important community link for NET and providing STEM-based learning opportunities for children.

The tram is already playing an important role in the city’s climate goals with NET’s new Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy outlining how the tram is helping to keep millions of passengers moving across the city with a clean, sustainable transport network powered by 100% green, renewable energy.

“I’m thrilled to be unveiling the Carbon Neutral 2028 tram today. Creating partnerships has a vital role in Nottingham’s ambitions to be the first carbon neutral city in the UK by 2028 – and NET play a pivotal part in helping us reduce the impact of transport, an area that accounted for 31% of the city’s CO2 emissions in 2019. This newly wrapped tram will allow us to raise awareness of CN28, as it carries residents, commuters, and visitors across the city and beyond.

Alfie Daniels said, “I am really pleased to be a Trambassador because I want people to help the environment by not using their car. It has been really interesting to learn more about the Tram and the people that work at the depot.” Ariadne Van Krimpen said, “I’m the school’s Environment Minister so I’m really excited about the green tram. Seeing it new at the depot is really special.”

The new wrap design has been installed on a tram that had an out-of-date wrapping in need of replacement – images showing the newly wrapped tram in the depot are available.
