Plans are currently being devised to undertake tram works which will require part of Wilford Lane to be closed to traffic.

Utility services need to be moved and a tram crossing installed, so that NET services travelling to and from Clifton will be able to cross Wilford Lane and run along the line of the former railway embankment.

Due to the nature of the works needed on Wilford Lane and the location of utility services, Wilford Lane will need to close to traffic between Compton Acres and Ashdown Close for approximately four months, while the works are undertaken.

Further detailed information about the works, which are expected to start on the 1st of September 2013, will be distributed to properties as well as public venues in the nearby area and also made available on this website, but in the meantime brief details are outlined below:

  • Signed diversion routes will operate for through-traffic along the A52 Clifton Boulevardand A60 Loughborough Road (for traffic heading into the city), and along A606 Melton Roadand A52 Clifton Boulevard (for traffic heading away from the city).
  • Vehicle access to; residential properties, including those between Ashdown Close and the former railway embankment, businesses, schools and other facilities along Wilford Lane will be maintained.
  • A pedestrian route, which cyclists will also be able to dismount and use, will be available through the works area.
We are currently working with bus operators to help them to plan their routes and services, and will publicise information here and on affected services in the weeks leading up to the works starting.
