Tram Track Replacement At Lace Market
Essential Track Maintenance Works Over Bank Holiday Weekend
22 May 2017
There will be temporary changes to tram services over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend when work to maintain and replace sections of the tram track in the Hyson Green area of the city begins.

A curved section of the track will be replaced at the junction of Wilkinson Street and Radford Road and maintenance works will be carried out on a section of the track between Noel Street and Terrace Street.

The main works will take place over three days from Saturday 27 May to Monday 29 May, when trams will be unable to operate between the Wilkinson Street and Forest tramstops. To minimise disruption to customers and road users, the works have been planned to take place over the bank holiday weekend when both the tram network and local roads are a little quieter.

Darren Smith, NET’s Deputy Operations Manager, explained: “The works will see sections of track replaced on one of the busiest parts of the network that has been in use since we first started running trams over 13 years ago.

“We’re committed to keeping Nottingham’s first class tram network in top condition and the work will help ensure we continue to provide a smooth journey for our thousands of customers every week.”

During this period, trams from Hucknall and Phoenix Park will run to and from Wilkinson Street, with services from Clifton South and Toton Lane operating to and from The Forest.

In order to maintain a full service to passengers, a replacement bus service will operate between Wilkinson Street and The Forest stops to enable customers to complete their journeys. There will be no tram or bus service to or from the Radford Road, Hyson Green, Noel Street, Beaconsfield Street and Shipstone Street tramstops across the three days.

A slightly altered timetable will be in operation during the works, with trams running from every 10 minutes between 7am to 9pm on Saturday 27 May, and between 7am and 7pm on Sunday 28 May and Monday 29 May.

Trams will run from every 15 minutes at all other times during the three days and a full weekday service is expected to resume on Tuesday 30 May.

Stephanie Moss-Pearce, NET’s Assistant Marketing Manager, added: “Services either side of the works will continue to operate and customers can still make use of our popular, free park & ride sites.

“Although we’re making every effort to minimise the impact on our customers, we would encourage people to allow a little extra time for their journeys if they are travelling with us on these days. We of course apologise for any inconvenience these changes to service may cause.”

To enable the work to be carried out safely, partial road closures and diversions will be in place and drivers are asked to allow more time for their journey.

Wilkinson Street and Radford Road will see partial road closures and diversions in place overnight from Monday 22 – Friday 26 May for preparatory works to take place. Road closures and diversions will then be continuously in place during the main works from on 00:01am on Saturday 27 May until 5am on Tuesday 30 May.

Noel Street and Terrace Street will be partly closed for three days and temporary traffic diversions will be in place from Saturday 27 to Monday 29 May 2017.

Pedestrian access to all businesses and homes will be maintained throughout.
