Temporary changes to some tram services will be introduced over the August Bank Holiday period whilst sections of the tram track are replaced near the Forest Recreation Ground in the city.
A section of the track will be replaced at the junction of Mount Hooton Road and Bentinck Road, south of The Forest tram stop.
The main works take place over five days from Saturday 26 August until Wednesday 30 August.
During this period, trams from Hucknall and Phoenix Park will run to and from The Forest, with services from Clifton South and Toton Lane operating to and from Old Market Square. A shuttle bus will operate between The Forest and Royal Centre to enable customers to complete their cross-city journeys.
Stephanie Moss-Pearce, NET’s Marketing Manager, commented: “Although every effort is being made to minimise the impact on our customers, we would advise people to allow a little extra time for their journeys.
“Trams will continue to operate either side of the works and popular facilities such as our park & ride sites will remain open as usual.”
Mike Mabey, NET’s Head of Operations, explained: “We’ll be replacing both northbound and southbound sections of track which have been in use since we first started operating in 2004.
“It is essential work that is all part of our track renewal programme and it has been purposely timed to coincide with the August Bank Holiday period to minimise the impact on customers and road users, when both the tram network and local roads are a little quieter.”
A slightly altered timetable will be in operation during the works, with trams running from every 10 minutes between 7am to 9pm on Saturday 26, Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 August, and between 7am and 7pm on Sunday 27 and Monday 28 August.
Trams will run from every 15 minutes at all other times during the five days and a full weekday service is expected to resume on Thursday 31 August.
To enable the track replacement to be carried out safely, a section of Mount Hooton Road will be closed to through traffic after Forest Grove. Access to businesses and homes will be maintained throughout.
Traffic from Forest Road and Waverley Street will be diverted via Forest Road West and Southey Street.
