DIPLOMA LEARNERS ‘HIGH FIVE’ THE TRAM
A group of learners from 3 schools on the IT Diploma course being delivered at Djanogly City Academy have been out and about filming Nottingham folk passing on High Fives around the City.
The project is part of the celebration of the 5th anniversary of the tram, which falls on 9 March 2009. The Diploma students were set the task by NET and ad agency “The Dairy” to produce a short film capturing High Fives – the main theme of the celebrations - taking place at various landmarks in and around Nottingham and featuring a diverse range of the public.
Storyboards were created and the students then set about the task of recruiting volunteers to take part in the films, ranging from a 5-year old girl to the Lord Mayor of Nottingham! These ambitious plans did not deter the students and, having successfully recruited their cast, they spent a day out of the classroom filming their various scenes.
The short film is due to be screened at the 5th anniversary event for the tram on Monday 9 March at the Council House and will also appear on the tram website.
In conjunction with these celebrations, a world record attempt for the highest number of High Fives in one location is going to take place in the Market Square.
“It is a great opportunity for our students to put into practice the IT, team work and communication skills that they are learning on this real life project,” said Nigel Akers, the City’s IT Diploma Co-ordinator. “It is particularly rewarding for them to be involved in a high profile project like the 5th anniversary of the tram and know that lots of people will be able to see their film.”
“I am delighted that the Diploma students from Fernwood, Bluecoat and Djanogly decided to get involved in this,” said Nicola Tidy. “They worked to our brief and have produced a very professional short film showing how the whole community has embraced the tram in its first 5 successful years in Nottingham.”
