Prison time for Tram assault
A man who spat at a member of NET Tram crew has been given 42 days prison time as a punishment for his actions.
James Cartledge 47, of Melford Rd, Nottingham, boarded the tram at Forest Rd Tram stop and was obviously heavily intoxicated.
After being asked to leave, he spat through the doors at the Tram crewmember Kevin Mason, who was on duty that day.
“I got a radio call saying there was a chap on the forest who wasn’t fit to travel and not to allow him to” said Kevin. “He forced his way on, I asked him leave and as the doors were closing, he spat in my face.”
“I’m really pleased with the result, its nice to think that justice is being done. The Police were brilliant. “
“It’s re-assuring to see a sentence of this magnitude handed out,” said PC Pickering, Beat Manager for the Transport Network. “Hopefully it sends out a strong message that will make people think before offending in this way.”
Helen Goulding – General Manager for NET stated “We are delighted that this case has been taken seriously, this was a crime against an innocent victim working to provide a public service, it was an anti-social act not only towards the Tram conductor but also all other Tram passengers.”
